(ATLANTA) – The Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency announces the opening of the application period for the Homeland Security Grant Program Monday, February 14.

Severe Weather Preparedness Week Starts Feb. 7

(ATLANTA) – The Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency, in partnership with the National Weather Service, encourages Georgians to learn and understand the threats of severe weather as well as prepare for various weather events during Severe Weather Preparedness Week on Feb. 7-11.

GEMA/HS hosts 2022 Georgia School Safety & Homeland Security Conference

(Columbus, GA) – The Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency, in partnership with the Georgia Department of Education, will be hosting the 2022 Georgia School Safety & Homeland Security Conference on June 21-23 in Columbus, Ga. Formerly known as the ‘Safety in our Schools’ conference, the Georgia School Safety and Homeland Security Conference is the state’s premiere and longest running conference for school safety.

Winter Weather Preparedness Week is December 6-10

(ATLANTA) – The Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency, in partnership with the National Weather Service and the Georgia Department of Transportation, is gearing up for Winter Weather Preparedness Week on Dec. 6-10. In preparation for inclement weather, Georgians will be encouraged to learn about winter weather threats, review or create a family communications plan and consider what items are best for their Ready kits.

Fall Severe Weather Preparedness Day Is November 3

(ATLANTA) – The Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency and the National Weather Service, declare November 3rd, as Georgia’s Fall Severe Weather Preparedness Day, encouraging schools, businesses and individuals to take part in a severe weather exercise/tornado drill at 9:30 a.m.

October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month

(ATLANTA) – Cyber Attacks have become more sophisticated and more frequent in the past year, with businesses and government agencies targeted by ransomware and other scams. The Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency is recognizing October as Cyber Security Awareness Month, and is encouraging citizens, businesses and government agencies across the state to learn how to secure their information through computers, mobile phones and other devices.

September is National Preparedness Month

(ATLANTA) – As assessments of the damage from Hurricane Ida begin, it’s a reminder that no matter the event, Georgians need to be prepared. To help reinforce the importance of being prepared, September has been designated as National Preparedness Month.

Governor Kemp Declares State of Emergency Ahead of Tropical Storm Elsa

(ATLANTA) – With heavy rain, flooding and high winds from Tropical Storm Elsa threatening the state, Governor Brian P. Kemp declared a State of Emergency Tuesday evening for 92 counties, ensuring state resources are available for those potentially affected by the storm.

Gordon County Eligible for Public Assistance and Hazard Mitigation Grant Program Funding Following March 25-26 Severe Weather and Tornadoes

(ATLANTA) – Effective May 27, Gordon County is added to Federal Disaster Declaration 4600-DR-GA, as eligible for Public Assistance, including Direct Federal Assistance as a result of severe weather and tornadoes that occurred on March 25-26.

June is Pet Preparedness Month

(ATLANTA) – The Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA/HS), along with local emergency management agencies, are encouraging citizens across the state to prepare their four-legged family members for any natural or man-made disasters that may occur.
