Winter Weather Preparedness Week begins December 5

(ATLANTA) – The Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency, in partnership with the National Weather Service, is preparing for Winter Weather Preparedness Week on Dec. 5-9. Georgians will be encouraged to learn about winter weather threats, review or create a family communications plan and consider what items are best for their Ready kits in preparation for the potential inclement weather this winter.

GEMA/HS Joins National Effort to Promote Infrastructure Security and Resilience

(ATLANTA) – November is Infrastructure Security Month across the nation, and Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA/HS) has committed to participate in this effort of focusing on the importance of our nation’s critical infrastructure.

GEMA/HS Named Former CIA Senior Officer as New Chief of Intelligence

(ATLANTA) – The Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency welcomed former Central Intelligence Agency senior officer, Linda Criblez, as the Homeland Security Division’s Chief of Intelligence. In her new role, Criblez will spearhead GEMA/HS’ intelligence unit to expand the collection and sharing of analysis with the goal of enhancing public and school safety in Georgia.

GEMA/HS, NWS prepares for Fall Severe Weather Preparedness Day, November 2

(ATLANTA) – The Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency, in partnership with the National Weather Service, declare November 2 as Georgia’s Fall Severe Weather Preparedness Day for schools, businesses and individuals to take part in a severe weather exercise/tornado drill at 9:30 a.m.

National Preparedness Month Begins September 1

ATLANTA, GA – Since Georgia is now in the peak of hurricane season, residents should look forward to preparing for the unexpected. September is National Preparedness Month, and the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA/HS), in partnership with local emergency management agencies, encourage all Georgians to prepare for natural and man-made disasters during this month. This year’s National Preparedness Month’s theme is “A Lasting Legacy.”

GEMA/HS Announces New GECA Executive Director

(ATLANTA) – The Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA/HS) announces the appointment of Greg Whitaker as the Executive Director for the Georgia Emergency Communications Authority (GECA). He will begin his role on May 16.

 

National Hurricane Preparedness Week is May 1-7

(ATLANTA) – The Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA/HS), in partnership with the National Weather Service and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), is recognizing May 1-7 as National Hurricane Preparedness Week. This is the ideal time for Georgians to learn and recognize the risks hurricanes pose, as well as plan and prepare for what to do before, during and after a storm.

Disaster Assistance Available for Six Georgia Counties

(ATLANTA) – Businesses and residents affected by the severe storms and tornadoes on April 5-6 in Bryan, Bulloch, Chatham, Effingham, Evans and Liberty counties can now apply for low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Flood Safety Preparedness Week begins March 7

(ATLANTA) – The Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA/HS), in partnership with the National Weather Service, recognizes Flood Safety Preparedness Week March 7-11. The week encourages all Georgians to prepare for flooding.
