Severe Weather Preparedness Week Starts Feb. 1

(ATLANTA) – The Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA/HS), in coordination with the National Weather Service (NWS), are calling on Georgians to educate themselves and understand the threats of severe weather during Severe Weather Preparedness Week, which will take place Feb. 1-5.

Major Disaster Declared for 21 Counties, Public Assistance Available

Governor Brian Kemp requested a Major Disaster Declaration for Tropical Storm Zeta based on joint federal, state and local preliminary damage assessments totaling more than $22 million. The disaster declaration approved by President Donald Trump makes public assistance available for 21 counties in Georgia.

12 Days of Preparedness begins Christmas Day

(ATLANTA) – Christmas is typically the time for celebration, but this year the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency is kicking off the 12 Days of Preparedness campaign to encourage its citizens to prepare for the winter months. From December 25 to January 5, Georgians will learn about topics from winterizing their homes, to safely dealing with winter hazards, as well as what additional items to put in their Ready kits.

Winter Weather Preparedness Week begins Dec. 7

(ATLANTA) – The Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA/HS), in partnership with the National Weather Service and the Georgia Department of Transportation, is preparing for Winter Weather Preparedness Week Dec. 7-11. This week encourages Georgians to prepare for inclement winter weather by learning about winter weather threats, reviewing or creating a family communications plan and considering what items to put in their Ready Kits.
