Ready or Not?

Emergency preparation can be the difference between life and death.

Are Georgians Ready?

Georgians are more prepared now than they were 5 years ago
63 percent in 2007 and 72 percent in 2012.

Fact: Georgian’s attitudes toward preparedness have improved.

Since 2007, there has been a 13 percent increase in people who believe they should be prepared to survive for at least 3 days following an emergency.

60 percent know the emergency protocol at work, but only 40 percent know the protocol at their children’s schools.

WHO is prepared?

Groups that have made the biggest gains in preparedness over the past 5 years include…

33 percent single people, 26 percent males, 22 percent households with children.

Nearly all major demographic groups in Georgia have increased their preparedness by at least 10 percent.

Preparedness among households with individuals with functional needs:

25 percent have a family member with access and/or functional needs.

64 percent have medical supplies for these family members.

53 percent have emergency resources for these family members.

So what are the top 3 items in Georgians’ Ready kits?

Manual Can Opener (85 percent)

Flashlight & Extra Batteries (79 percent)

First Aid Kit (72 percent)

And what about a 3-day supply of food and water?

Only 58 percent of households have stocked this key element!

And…

Less than 40 percent of Georgians believe that they need to be prepared to survive for the recommended 72 hours following a large-scale emergency.

So Why Aren’t Georgians Ready?

“I haven’t experienced a disaster and I don’t think one will strike my area.”- 30 percent
